5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide. It is a small synthetic molecule that inhibits NNMT, an enzyme involved in how fat cells handle energy, and it is sold alongside peptides because it is marketed to the same people for the same reasons.
It has one genuine attraction over most of what is sold here: it is orally active, so it does not need an injection.
Why people are talking about it
The route, first. Almost everything in this category needs reconstituting and injecting. A capsule that does something is a materially different proposition, and it removes the whole apparatus of vials, needles and sterile technique.

The mechanism is the second reason. Rather than suppressing appetite, it targets an enzyme inside the fat cell that governs how energy is stored, which in mice produced fat loss without the animals eating less.

Fat loss without appetite suppression
The claim is losing fat without the appetite effects of the GLP-1 drugs. The mechanism is inhibition of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, an enzyme that is more active in the fat tissue of obese animals and which influences how fat cells handle NAD and energy storage.
In practice that describes changing what a fat cell does with energy rather than changing how much energy arrives. That was measured in mice, where inhibitors of this enzyme reduced fat mass.
Muscle preservation
The claim is holding onto lean tissue during a calorie deficit, on reported effects on muscle stem cell function in animal work.
That is an interesting idea and it has not been measured in a person.
What the evidence shows
Animal and cell data only. The NNMT target is well characterised, the mouse results are real, and the mechanism is a legitimate area of pharmaceutical interest.

There is no human trial: no phase 1, no pharmacokinetics in people, no safety study and no efficacy data. That is an unusually clean absence even by the standards of this category, and it is worth knowing because the enzyme is not confined to fat tissue. NNMT is involved in methyl group handling more broadly, and what chronic inhibition does in a person has not been measured.

Sold as capsules or as a bulk powder, taken by mouth. No human dose has been established, so the figures on the label come from animal work converted by rules of thumb.
How it compares
Against the GLP-1 drugs
Semaglutide and tirzepatide work through appetite and have large completed trials behind them. 5-Amino-1MQ proposes a different mechanism entirely and has no human data at all, so the two are not really in the same conversation yet.

Against the growth hormone fragments
AOD-9604 and HGH Frag 176-191 are the older attempt at fat loss without appetite effects. One of them was tested properly and did not beat placebo, which is more than can be said either way about this molecule.
